First Lines: When I wake up, the other side of the bed is cold. My fingers stretch out, seeking Prim's warmth but finding only the rough canvas cover of the mattress. She must have had bad dreams and climbed in with our mother. Of course she did. This is the day of the reaping.
My Thoughts: There was constant suspense from the very first chapter of this book. There were so many different emotions running through my head throughout the book, that I almost couldn't keep up. From suspense and terror, to sadness and even joy.
The characters are extremely well spun, and have so many raw emotions that I will remember them for a long time; especially Rue and Katniss. Their personalities and how they act, sometimes make you think about your own contribution to the world. With Katniss not knowing who her friends and enemies are, there are many twists which are brought on by this. Her decisions are so pure and innocent, and no one believes it; they always take her actions the wrong way.
With Capitol making new rules all the time, you are left guessing what is true and what they just want you to believe, until it comes back to bite you. The idea of the Hunger Games is so creative, but you feel quit disturbed at the same time. Only one out of 24 people survive the hunger games, and knowing that only one person survives makes the book even more real, because the other character's deaths are imminent.
Suzanne Collins has done an amazing job writing the Hunger Games. This extremely well told, creative, well written book is one of my all time favourites. I highly recommend it.
