The Awakening and The Struggle by L. J. Smith

Title: The Awakening and The Struggle
Author: L. J. Smith
Pages: 492
Publication Date: Jun. 26th, 2007

Back Cover: Elena: the golden girl, the leader, the one who can have any boy she wants.

Stefan: brooding and mysterious, he seems to be the only one who can resist Elena, even as he struggles to protect her from the horrors that haunt his past.

Damon: sexy, dangerous, and driven by an urge for revenge against Stefan, the brother who betrayed him. Determined to have Elena, he'd kill to possess her.
Elena finds herself drawn to both brothers... who will she choose?

First Lines: Dear Diary, something awful is going to happen today.

My Thoughts: If you like cheesy paranormal romance, then this is the book for you. With its extremely emotional and vulnerable characters, and its cheesy plot, this book is definitely good for a person who likes those sort of sappy  romance novels and supernatural creatures.

The characters each have a unique personality, which is one of the positive things about this book, becasue people can relate to them. But, the characters are so free with their emotions, that this book just drags on and on with them describing how they feel. The difference between good and evil is also one of the main aspects of this book, and is portrayed through the characters.

The punctuation and writing in this book is quite good. There aren't many grammatical mistakes, so that is another positive about the book. The plot is quite interesting, especially since the story continues on from a past event, but a lot of the twists are predictable and uninteresting.

L. J. Smith has created a paranormal romance book for young adult readers which contains love, lust and passion. Although the plot is interesting, most of the twists are predictable. If you like vampire love stories, then I recommend this book.
